These two pieces were the result of a request to duplicate the steel sieve that I was using to display magnets AS a piece of pottery. After several glaze tests, I found a nice weathered greenish-gray that fit the bill for the cylindrical section. I also accented it with some other gray that I mixed up, and some rutile and iron oxide splatters, to give it the used and weathered look. I added the imprinted slab hearts, offset at different depths, which were coated in underglaze and clear glaze. On the second vessel, I painted small hearts with the underglaze and coated them with the clear glaze. Over all of the glazed hearts, I applied a coating of wax so I could apply the gray glazes and oxide splatters, and not obscure the pinks and blues. Hand built, they are 4.75" tall and 6.25" in diameter. They are a tad wonky, which adds to their charm. The vessel with the larger number of hearts on it is 2.5 lbs., and the one with fewer is 2.25 lbs.
